A swift rescue operation unfolded near Delhi's Mathura Road on Wednesday when a man fell into an open drain in Sarita Vihar. Alert locals present at the scene quickly mobilized, using a discarded cable to pull the man to safety. The entire event was filmed, and the video has since circulated widely.
This rescue highlights a recurring issue with open drains in the capital. The Sarita Vihar area has seen three such incidents in the past 20 days. This latest event occurred along the busy Mathura Road, where pedestrians and motorists frequently pass.
Tragically, a similar incident days earlier in Jasola involved a 15-year-old boy who fell into an open drain while flying a kite. His body was recovered on Tuesday, underscoring the severe risks associated with these neglected public safety hazards. The quick thinking in Sarita Vihar averted a similar tragedy.
