Delhi is grappling with an intense heatwave, as temperatures reach approximately 46 degrees Celsius, with projections indicating continued high temperatures. In response, the Delhi government has activated Mobile Heat Relief Units across its 13 districts.
These mobile units, operating daily from 11 am to 6 pm, are equipped with cold water tanks, ORS packets, first-aid kits, caps, and towels. They are strategically positioned in crowded areas like railway stations and markets to assist those most vulnerable to heatstroke and dehydration.
Outdoor workers such as rickshaw pullers, auto drivers, and delivery personnel form a significant portion of the daily visitors seeking respite. The government's Heat Action Plan 2026 also includes the establishment of Cooling Zones, water ATMs, and enhanced hospital facilities to mitigate heat-related illnesses.
The India Meteorological Department has warned of persistent heatwave conditions, urging residents to take precautions against the scorching weather.
