Son's Last Act: Delhi Man Dies in House Fire

A devastating fire engulfed a four-storey residence in Sangam Vihar, New Delhi, on Sunday morning, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives. Satender Gupta, the owner of the property and a footwear shop owner, died after reportedly re-entering the burning building. His mother and wife, along with his young sons, narrowly escaped the blaze, with his wife and children returning from tuition to find their home engulfed in flames.

Among the other victims was Anita, a long-time tenant, and her visiting sister, Mamta, who survived by jumping from the building but sustained severe injuries. The close-knit community is in shock, recalling recent celebrations that starkly contrast with the current tragedy. Neighbors recounted the harrowing efforts to rescue Mamta from the burning structure.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, with speculation ranging from a short circuit to the possibility of petrol being stored within the premises. DNA tests are being conducted on the charred remains of two bodies. The incident has prompted a case under sections pertaining to death by negligence.
