A devastating fire that engulfed a four-storey residential building in East Delhi's Vivek Vihar on Sunday resulted in the loss of nine lives. Among the victims was 45-year-old Shikha Jain, who tragically perished after prioritizing the safety of her family.
Witness accounts and family members revealed that Shikha bravely rescued her elderly parents and two domestic helpers from their second-floor flat before the fire intensified. Her husband, Naveen Jain, 48, sustained 30-40 percent burn injuries while escaping with their two daughters, Rakshita (22) and Priyal (15), who also suffered minor injuries during their escape.
The fire reportedly started on the second floor, trapping Shikha and Naveen. Naveen managed to escape with severe burns to his face and hands, but Shikha remained trapped in the flat and could not make it out. The family's quick actions, aided by neighbors, helped save several lives amidst the rapidly spreading flames and smoke.
