A family from Bangladesh, visiting Delhi for a kidney transplant, suffered a devastating loss due to a fire incident in Hauz Rani. Rahana Akhtar, 41, who was receiving medical treatment for seven days, died on June 10, according to her mother-in-law, Sayeda Begum.
Akhtar's husband, Mosharaf Hossain, 47, who was also injured in the fire, remains hospitalized. His cousin, Zohra, and her daughter had accompanied them, with Zohra serving as the donor. The family had arrived in Delhi on the night of June 2, intending to stay at a hotel the following morning, but the fire broke out shortly after their arrival.
Beyond the personal tragedy, the family is facing difficulties recovering their belongings. They reported missing items including multiple phones, five pieces of luggage, $14,000 cash, 11,000 British pounds, and ₹63,000. The lack of familiarity with the local language has added to their challenges in reporting the incident to the Malviya Nagar police station.
