13 Jun
Summary
- Three family members died in a Tughlakabad Extension building fire.
- An electrical short circuit is suspected as the fire's origin.
- Eight residents were evacuated and treated for injuries.

A fierce fire erupted in a six-storey residential building in Southeast Delhi's Tughlakabad Extension early Friday, resulting in the deaths of three family members and leaving two others in critical condition. The victims were identified as Pankaj (28), his sister Soni (20), and grandmother Sushila Devi (70). Pankaj's mother Guddi (50) and younger sister Moni (18) are currently receiving treatment.
Initial investigations suggest an electrical short circuit on the ground floor may have ignited the blaze, which rapidly spread and engulfed multiple parked vehicles, including scooters and motorcycles. Firefighting operations commenced after a PCR call at 2:24 am, with emergency responders mobilizing quickly. The flames escalated from the ground floor parking area to all six floors by 4:25 am.
Eight residents were rescued from the smoke-filled building and transported to Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS Trauma Centre. While the ground, first, and second floors sustained extensive damage, the upper floors suffered partial impact. Local residents reported that a factory was operating on the third floor, and the building's ventilation was inadequate.
