19 Oct
Summary
- Two daily wage workers killed in wall collapse
- Contractor and site supervisor arrested for negligence
- Third worker suffered severe leg injuries

On Thursday, October 17th, 2025, tragedy struck a chemical factory in Kurkumbh MIDC, Pune, when an under-construction wall collapsed, killing two workers and injuring another. The incident occurred around 4:30 pm when the 15-foot-high brick wall, which was still being built, could not sustain the weight of the soil being dumped on the other side by an earth-moving machine.
The two deceased workers, Mamata Devi Sudama Das (27) and Soni Devi Sarayu Kumar (28), both hailed from Gaya, Bihar, but were residing in Pandharewadi, Daund. Their co-worker, Sita Devi Kol from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, suffered severe injuries to her legs.
Investigations by the Daund police revealed that the contractor and site supervisor had failed to provide adequate safety measures for the workers. As a result, they were arrested on Saturday under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 125 (act endangering life and personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of safety protocols at construction sites to prevent such avoidable accidents and protect the lives of vulnerable workers.
