Deadly Typhoon Kalmaegi Kills 2, Triggers Massive Evacuations in Philippines
4 Nov
Summary
- Two people killed as Typhoon Kalmaegi hits Philippines
- Tens of thousands evacuated due to flooding, strong winds
- Typhoon expected to make landfall in Vietnam on Thursday

On November 4, 2025, Typhoon Kalmaegi, known locally as Tino, made landfall in the Philippines, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The powerful storm, packing sustained winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 205 kph, has claimed the lives of two people so far.
Tens of thousands of residents were forced to evacuate their homes as Kalmaegi brought torrential rains, strong winds, and storm surges to multiple provinces. Scenes of submerged homes and flooded streets were reported in cities like Talisay and Cebu, with vehicles and infrastructure heavily impacted.
The Philippine weather agency, PAGASA, warned of the high risk of "life-threatening and damaging storm surges" that could reach over three meters in height along coastal and low-lying communities in the central Philippines, including parts of Mindanao.
As Kalmaegi continues to cross the Visayas region, it is expected to weaken slightly due to the interaction with the terrain. However, the agency has stated that the typhoon is expected to remain at typhoon intensity throughout its passage over the country.
The Vietnamese government has also announced that it is preparing for the worst-case scenario as Kalmaegi is forecast to make landfall in the country's central regions on Thursday night. The typhoon is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds, further exacerbating the recent floods that have already claimed at least 40 lives and left six others missing.
