On November 13, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Bucheon, South Korea when a truck crashed into a traditional market, leaving 2 people dead and 19 injured. According to the police, the accident happened when a man in his sixties drove his one-ton cargo truck into the crowded market, reversing before surging forward for around 130 meters.
The majority of the injured were between the ages of 50 and 70. Police have requested an arrest warrant for the suspect on charges of causing death and injury under the Act on Special Cases of Traffic Accidents. The suspect was questioned for over 2 hours, and the police stated that the warrant request reflects the seriousness of the offense.
The suspect has claimed to suffer from moyamoya, a rare blood vessel condition, for which he was taking prescribed medication. However, he insisted that the illness "has nothing to do with driving and does not affect my ability to drive." Deadly transport accidents with multiple casualties are rare in South Korea, which generally has well-maintained roads and vehicles.
