Deadly Landslides Devastate Central Java, Indonesia: 18 Dead, 30 Missing

As of November 17, 2025, a series of deadly landslides have hit Indonesia's Java island, claiming 18 lives and leaving over 30 people missing. The disasters were triggered by heavy rainfall that has been pounding the region.
The first landslide occurred on Thursday in the Cilacap district of Central Java province, burying several locations. Rescue teams have since recovered 16 bodies from the Cilacap area, and seven people remain unaccounted for. Additionally, at least 16 houses were damaged in the incident.
Two more landslides struck a village in the Banjarnegara district of Central Java on Saturday and Sunday, resulting in the deaths of two people. Authorities report that at least 27 individuals are still missing in Banjarnegara.
