16 Nov
Summary
- Roof collapsed on sleeping family, killing mother
- Children injured after landlord ignored repair requests
- Husband alleges negligence by landlord led to tragedy

On November 12th, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Gurgaon when the roof of a rented home collapsed, killing a woman and injuring her two children. The victim, Sunita (36), was sleeping in the room with her son Rohit (17) and daughter Anjali (15) when the incident took place around 3:30 AM.
According to the family, the roof had been weakening for days due to a broken gutter that caused constant water seepage. Despite repeated pleas to the landlord, Makdul Alam and Ajmeri, no repairs were carried out. The weight of a heavy water tank and the damp conditions had compromised the structural integrity of the roof.
Sunita's husband, Bihari Mukhiya, who works at a printing press, said he had been staying overnight at his workplace due to the wedding season workload. When the roof collapsed, Rohit managed to call his father, who rushed to the scene. Emergency services had already arrived, and the victims were taken to the Civil Hospital, where Sunita was declared dead. The children were treated for their injuries.
Mukhiya later approached the police, alleging negligence by the landlord. An FIR has been registered against the landlords under Sections 290 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The investigation will focus on whether the landlords knowingly ignored the hazardous condition of the property.
