A father of two, Scott Blankley, is continuing his recovery in hospital following a severe fall from three stories while undertaking home renovations in January. The 47-year-old construction worker sustained critical injuries including 11 broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, several vertebrae, a brain bleed, and damage to his lung and kidney.
Scott was admitted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where he has undergone extensive rehabilitation, relearning basic functions like walking and swallowing. A portion of his skull was removed to manage the brain bleed. His family, led by his brother Kai, are actively fundraising to support Scott and his young children.
The No Falls Foundation is collaborating with Scott's family to elevate awareness around the dangers of falls from height, which are the leading cause of accidental workplace fatalities. Charity manager Hannah Williams emphasized the severe physical and mental health impacts, including PTSD and depression, often experienced by victims and their families.
Peter Bennett OBE, Chair of the No Falls Foundation, praised Scott's resilience and used his case to stress the importance of risk assessment, advocating for a cultural shift to prioritize safety over expediency in all work at height scenarios.
