Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu has begun its landfall process along the south Andhra Pradesh coast, near Ongole. Gale winds reaching 100-110 kmph, with gusts up to 120 kmph, are currently impacting the coastal areas and are expected to persist through the morning.
A storm surge of 1.0-1.5 metres above the astronomical tide is anticipated, potentially leading to inundation of low-lying regions in south coastal Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rainfall is also predicted over the next 12 hours. Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has placed officials on high alert, stressing that preventing loss of life is the administration's utmost priority.
Officials have been instructed to ensure that residents in vulnerable areas remain indoors until the storm fully crosses the coast.
