Cycle Path 'Blackspot' Finally Repaired After Horrific Injuries
26 Oct
Summary
- Cycle path resurfaced after multiple injury-causing crashes.
- One victim suffered a brain haemorrhage and coma from a fall.
- Repairs were completed less than a week after media coverage.
An accident-prone section of the Bristol and Bath Railway Path at Siston Common, near Warmley, has undergone resurfacing. This location was previously described as an "accident blackspot" due to a series of incidents.
One notable incident involved Emanuele Ziglioli, who suffered a brain injury, resulting in a 10-day coma. Another cyclist reported a broken jaw. These injuries were attributed to raised tarmac caused by tree roots beneath the path.
Following media attention, including reports by the BBC and complaints documented on Fix My Street in 2025, South Gloucestershire Council initiated repairs. The council removed the problematic tree roots and resurfaced the affected area. Mr. Ziglioli, who was not wearing a helmet during his accident, welcomed the repairs as a success, expressing relief that the path has been fixed.
Cycling advocacy groups have called for prompt action on reported path issues to prevent serious accidents from occurring before repairs are made. The council previously wished Mr. Ziglioli a speedy recovery and has not issued further statements since the repairs were completed.
