1 Mar
Summary
- Regal Princess rescued four individuals from a small distressed boat.
- The rescued individuals were found aboard a makeshift vessel.
- This incident is the second such rescue by a cruise ship recently.

The Regal Princess cruise ship recently rescued four individuals from a small, distressed vessel in the Gulf of Mexico. This dramatic rescue occurred as the ship was sailing from Galveston, Texas, to Cozumel, Mexico, on February 23. Passengers on board erupted in cheers when the captain announced the successful rescue operation. The four individuals were found on a makeshift boat constructed of metal and wood and were safely brought aboard.
Princess Cruises confirmed that all rescued individuals received medical evaluation and will be transported to the next scheduled port of call to be met by authorities. This maritime rescue aligns with international obligations under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, requiring ships to assist those in distress. This incident follows a similar rescue by a Carnival Celebration ship on February 16, which also saved individuals from a sinking vessel near Cozumel.
