Cruise Canceled Mid-Voyage: Passengers Stranded!

A planned seven-night Alaska cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas was canceled after passengers had already boarded in Vancouver. The voyage, initially set to depart on August 30, was delayed for maintenance. However, two days into the journey, the cruise line announced the trip's cancellation due to ongoing technical problems.
Passengers were informed of the impending cancellation via email on August 22, with the sailing initially shortened to five days to accommodate maintenance. When repairs were not completed in time, the entire voyage was scrapped. Affected guests received a full refund, retained their onboard credit, and were given a future cruise credit equivalent to 100% of their fare, plus reimbursement for eligible flight changes.
The Serenade of the Seas, which can host 2,143 guests, has experienced other technical difficulties in recent years. In July 2025, engine trouble forced a return to port, causing passengers to miss a stop in Sitka. Earlier in June 2025, similar issues led to missed ports and scenic cruising.
Despite the cancellations, the Serenade of the Seas was reported to be ready for its next scheduled sailing on September 6, welcoming new passengers for a seven-day Alaska cruise.
