Summary
- Trainee electrician dragged under water by crocodile
- Desperate sibling tried to save him but failed
- Search and rescue efforts continue, victim still missing

On September 30, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Malaysia when a young man was snatched by a crocodile while swimming in the Sungai Semanok River. Trainee electrician Jeffery Masing Win, 21, was enjoying the freshwater when the beast suddenly attacked him. His horrified brother tried to pry open the reptile's jaws, but Jeffery was dragged beneath the murky water and disappeared.
Attempts to alert emergency services were delayed due to the remote location and poor phone coverage. Firefighters and search and rescue teams were deployed, but they faced challenges in reaching the spot directly as the river was too shallow and narrow. The search operation, which involved both land and water teams, continued until 5 pm on September 30, 2025, but Jeffery's body has not yet been found.
This incident is the latest in a series of crocodile attacks in the Sarawak region of Malaysia. In September 2025, a 12-year-old schoolboy was also killed by a crocodile in the same state. Authorities have been trying to reduce such incidents through measures like periodic culls, warning signs, and public awareness campaigns, but the threat of crocodile encounters remains persistent, especially along rivers and estuaries.
