Coyote Attacks Woman in Bergen County Backyard

On Monday, October 16th, 2025, a woman in Woodcliff Lake, Bergen County was attacked by a coyote while she was outside with her dog. Surveillance footage captured the incident around 1:20 PM. According to Woodcliff Lake Police Capt. Chad Malloy, the coyote bit the woman on her leg, arm, and back. The coyote also went after the woman's golden retriever, but the dog was not seriously injured.

After the attack, the coyote fled the scene. Since the animal was not caught, authorities are unsure if it was rabid. As a precaution, the victim may need to undergo a series of rabies treatments over the next month. Coyote attacks in the area are reportedly rare, but police are warning residents to be extra vigilant, especially those living near wooded areas. Residents are advised to keep pet food indoors, secure garbage cans, and clear any heavy brush that could attract coyotes.

This incident comes just a month after police in the nearby borough of Saddle River euthanized a coyote following two separate attacks on people walking their dogs. Authorities are urging the public to report any coyote sightings or encounters to the local police department.
