Colorado Wildfires Rage: 4 Blazes Consume 41 Square Miles
5 Jul
Summary
- Four Colorado wildfires burned over 41 square miles on July 4th.
- The Aspen Acres fire is now Colorado's largest active wildfire.
- Over 2,200 firefighters are currently battling the four wildfires.

As of July 5th, 2026, four significant wildfires were actively burning across Colorado, consuming an additional 41 square miles on July 4th. These blazes, the Aspen Acres, Gold Mountain, Ferris, and Willow fires, have collectively scorched approximately 246 square miles in Pueblo, Custer, Lake, and Ouray counties.
The Aspen Acres fire stands as Colorado's largest active wildfire and has become the eighth-largest in state history. It alone consumed another 13,605 acres overnight Friday into Saturday, bringing its total to 86,982 acres (136 square miles) with no containment reported as of Saturday afternoon.
More than 2,200 firefighters and personnel are dedicated to suppressing these four wildfires, with additional resources arriving from out of state and other Colorado fires. Despite facing hot and dry conditions, cloud cover offered some relief by tempering fire behavior in parts of the state. While structures like Bishop Castle and YMCA Camp Jackson were saved, thousands of Coloradans remain displaced by mandatory evacuations across all four fires.
