A fatal plane crash occurred in northeast Colombia on Wednesday, claiming the lives of all 15 individuals aboard a Satena flight. The Beechcraft 1900 turboprop aircraft had departed from Cucuta, near the Venezuelan border, for a brief journey to Ocana.
Contact with the plane was lost approximately 12 minutes after takeoff. Satena confirmed that local lawmaker Diogenes Quintero and his team, along with congressional candidate Carlos Salcedo, were passengers. The airline has not specified the cause of the crash, noting that the plane's emergency beacon was not activated.
The crash site is situated in a rugged, mountainous area known for coca cultivation and the presence of illegal armed groups. Images released by local media show extensive damage to the aircraft's fuselage.
