Colombia Quake: 69 Dead, President Leads Rescue

A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia, causing significant loss of life and shaking numerous cities, including the capital, Bogota. The city of Pereira in western Colombia reported at least 69 fatalities following the seismic event. Authorities measured the earthquake's magnitude between 6.8 and 7.5, occurring at a depth of approximately 80 to 93.7 km.

Colombian President Abelardo De La Espriella has taken charge of the emergency response, establishing a Unified Command Post to coordinate relief efforts. He pledged full government support and personally traveled to affected areas, including Pereira and Chocó, to assist communities and assess urgent needs. The President emphasized that the state is actively engaged in supporting its citizens during this difficult time.
