A Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules military aircraft experienced an accident on Monday as it was taking off from Puerto Leguizamo. This location is deep within Colombia's southern Amazon region, bordering Peru.
According to reports, the plane was transporting troops from the armed forces. Local media cited authorities indicating that 110 soldiers were on board the flight. The accident happened approximately 3 km from an urban center.
The Colombian defense ministry confirmed the incident but stated that the precise number of victims and the causes of the crash have not yet been determined. Lockheed Martin has not immediately responded to requests for comment. This event follows a separate Hercules C-130 crash in Bolivia at the end of February.
