Callum Laird, 25, experienced a life-threatening fall of over 1,500 feet on Goat Fell, Arran, last Saturday. Training for an ultramarathon in icy conditions, he lost his footing but managed to break his descent by clinging to rocks and landing on a marshy area. Despite sustaining a chipped ankle, shin injury, and superficial burns, Mr. Laird's determination to survive led him to run four miles.
He crossed a river and marsh before encountering a woman who provided crucial assistance. This Samaritan rushed him to Arran War Memorial Hospital. The following day, Mr. Laird was airlifted to Crosshouse Hospital. He now advises others to always mountain train with a companion, emphasizing the near-fatal nature of his solo excursion.
