A significant fire broke out at a chicken farm in Cheshire on Friday morning, with emergency services continuing to monitor the site into Saturday. The blaze occurred at The Grange on Checkley Lane, near Bridgemere. At its peak, approximately 50 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the flames, which had engulfed a poultry shed measuring about 100m by 100m.
The fire covered an area of roughly four acres, comparable to the size of two football pitches. Thick plumes of black smoke were visible for many miles, prompting warnings for residents in nearby areas, including Betley and Madeley, to keep their doors and windows closed. Drivers on the M6 also reported seeing the smoke.
As of Saturday morning at 08:30 BST, two fire engines remained at the scene to damp down any remaining hot spots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Crews from Shropshire, including Market Drayton and Whitchurch, also assisted in tackling the incident. An investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to commence once firefighting operations are concluded. No injuries were reported.
