In November 2025, Staffordshire County Council is taking steps to enhance safety at a problematic crossroads in Cheadle where a spate of crashes took place in 2024. The £25,000 scheme, which began this week, involves replacing the existing "give way" markings at the Draycott Cross Road junction with "stop" signs and signals. Additionally, the council is installing advance warning signs to alert drivers to the upcoming intersection.
Next year, the local authority plans to reduce the speed limit to 30mph on both Draycott Cross Road and Brookhouse Road, while also tweaking the existing 30mph zone on the A521 Delphouse Road to cover a longer stretch. These measures aim to make the junction safer and provide reassurance to the local community, who have voiced concerns about the recurring collisions.
The first phase of the work, which is being carried out under temporary traffic lights, is expected to take a week to complete. Councilor Patrick Allen stated that the council has been "working hard behind the scenes to identify both short-term and long-term measures" to address the safety issues at the Draycott Cross Road junction.
