In a tragic turn of events, 82-year-old Bob Montgomery passed away on Monday, August 4th, 2026, following a single-vehicle car crash in Sydney's Arncliffe suburb.
This devastating incident occurred merely a day after Montgomery concluded his remarkable 5,200km cycling expedition from Broome to Bowral. This was his sixth and final interstate fundraising trip, dedicated to raising vital funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) NSW, a cause he championed passionately.
The epic ride, fittingly named 'One Last Ride,' was undertaken with his teenage grandson, Tom. Together, they generated an impressive $104,965 in donations, significantly contributing to MND NSW's efforts.
Montgomery was treated at the scene by emergency services before being transported to St George Hospital in a critical condition, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. A 79-year-old passenger also sustained injuries in the crash.
MND NSW, along with its CEO Liam O'Meara, expressed deep sadness over the loss of Montgomery, remembering him as a "cherished friend and tireless supporter" whose dedication ensured vital care and support for those affected by motor neurone disease.
