26 May
Summary
- A 1.5km retaining wall will be built along the Irai river.
- Low-lying localities, including Rahmat Nagar, will be protected.
- Former minister Sudhir Mungantiwar championed the flood mitigation project.

Chandrapur city is set to implement a significant flood mitigation project to protect its low-lying localities from seasonal monsoon inundation. A 1.5-kilometer-long retaining wall will be constructed along the Irai riverbank, addressing long-standing concerns from residents of areas like Rahmat Nagar.
This initiative was spearheaded by former minister and MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar. Following a ground inspection of the vulnerable river stretch, he directed officials to prepare a detailed project estimate and finalize the alignment. Mungantiwar emphasized the need for a comprehensive proposal, including earth-filling in susceptible zones, to be submitted through the Disaster Management Department.
The proposed wall is anticipated to offer a durable solution against erosion and rising water levels, which have frequently threatened densely populated areas along the river. Mungantiwar assured that necessary funds would be allocated once the project proposal is finalized, ensuring the construction of the cement concrete protection wall and associated flood control measures.
