19 Apr
Summary
- Over 400,000 wireless chargers recalled following a death.
- Charger overheated, expanded, or caught fire; causing burns.
- Consumers should stop using chargers and seek replacement.
Casely has reannounced a recall for approximately 429,000 portable MagSafe wireless phone chargers due to serious safety concerns. This action was prompted by a report of a 75-year-old woman in New Jersey who died from severe burns after the charger caught fire and exploded in August 2024. She sustained second- and third-degree burns. This incident occurred after the initial recall in April 2025.
Previously, Casely had received 51 reports of chargers overheating, expanding, or igniting, leading to minor burns. Since then, 28 more reports emerged, including the fatality. In February 2025, another woman suffered first-degree burns when her charger also caught fire and exploded mid-flight. The affected product is the Casely Power Pods 5000mAh portable MagSafe wireless phone charger, model number E33A.
These chargers were sold online between March 2024 and September 2024 for $30-$70. Consumers who own the recalled device must cease using it immediately. To obtain a free replacement, customers must visit getcasely.com/pages/2025-recall, submit photos of the product after marking it 'Recalled' with the date, and then dispose of the charger according to local hazardous waste regulations, as lithium-ion batteries cannot be trashed or conventionally recycled.
