The Carnival Dream was fortunately docked on its port side, meaning the detached lifeboat fell into the sea rather than onto the ship or dock. Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the event, explaining that a latch caught on a cable during the test, leading to the lifeboat's detachment.
No individuals were injured during this alarming event, as the lifeboat was unmanned at the time of the test. Carnival stated that all their ships carry an excess of required life-saving equipment and that lifeboats undergo regular testing to ensure operational readiness. This incident follows a similar event on another cruise line in 2022.
