Pool chemical leak sends 11 kids to hospital

On Sunday morning, emergency services responded to a hazardous materials call at the Canmore Inn and Suites pool. Approximately 30 children in the pool area exhibited symptoms, including vomiting. Fire crews suspected chemical exposure, specifically chlorine, due to elevated hazardous substance levels detected in the air.
Eleven children were taken to the hospital, with ten in stable condition. One child was transferred to the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary in serious but stable condition. The pool area and a mechanical room were cordoned off and ventilated. Subsequent air testing confirmed the hotel was safe before crews departed.
