20 May
Summary
- Thirteen wildfires reported statewide, with some already contained.
- Evacuation orders issued due to immediate threat to life.
- Dry, breezy conditions with moderate fire risk expected.
California is currently experiencing multiple fast-moving wildfires, prompting widespread evacuation orders across several regions. Thousands of residents have already been displaced, with thousands more at risk as fire crews work to protect lives and homes. The situation is highly fluid, with evacuation orders potentially issued or expanded with little notice.
Thirteen wildfires have been reported statewide by CAL Fire, though two are now 100 percent contained. Evacuation Orders, indicating an "immediate threat to life," have been issued for specific fires in impacted counties. Residents under such orders are urged to leave immediately.
Looking ahead, the National Weather Service predicts elevated fire weather through Wednesday and the rest of the week. This includes a moderate risk of fast-moving fine fuel fires away from the coast, driven by breezy and dry conditions. Gustier winds are possible in some foothills and Santa Barbara County zones.
