Flash Flood Sweeps Man Away in Cajon Pass

A man was swept away by powerful floodwaters in the Cajon Pass after his pickup truck became stuck. The incident occurred late Tuesday night when the man attempted to drive across a road inundated by a flash flood. San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel found the man standing on the roof of his submerged vehicle, surrounded by swift-moving water.

As rescue efforts were underway, the truck shifted, causing the man to be swept into the torrent. Despite downstream safety measures and deployed ropes, rescuers were unable to secure him. Bad weather, including heavy rain and wind, prevented the use of drones and helicopters, forcing an overnight suspension of the search.

Search operations resumed early Wednesday morning. Crews were positioned, awaiting improved weather conditions, specifically hoping for cleared cloud cover to enable aerial searches to continue. The exact condition of the man remains unknown as the search persists.
