CAF Funds Venezuelan Earthquake Aid

The Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) has committed over $272,000 to support Venezuelan social organizations. These entities will provide direct assistance to communities affected by earthquakes that occurred on June 24. The funds were generated through CAF Volunteering, staff contributions, and a matching mechanism, bolstered by a contribution from the OAS.
Seven organizations were rigorously selected to implement a response plan focusing on community restoration and vulnerable sectors. Beneficiaries include Dr. Yaso International for hospital environment humanization, the Venezuelan Institute for the Comprehensive Development of Children for neurodevelopmental disorders, and the Little Sisters of the Poor for free medical care. The Madre Teresa Clinic Home will offer geriatric care, while Fe y Alegría will aid educational infrastructure recovery.
Further support comes from the Walking Towards Our Dreams Foundation for individuals with physical disabilities and the Children's Orthopedic Hospital Foundation for physical rehabilitation and prosthetics. CAF's Executive President, Sergio Díaz-Granados, emphasized that reconstruction involves more than infrastructure, focusing on people and community well-being. The Children's Orthopedic Hospital has launched a solidarity census for earthquake victims needing prosthetics and mobility devices.
