10 Mar
Summary
- Bundaberg residents urged to evacuate immediately due to major flooding risk.
- Northern Territory experiences its worst flooding in decades, impacting Darwin's water supply.
- Global heating exacerbates Australia's vulnerability to extreme weather events.

Coastal Queensland city of Bundaberg faces immediate evacuation orders due to the threat of major flooding from the Burnett River. The river is expected to peak above 7 metres on Tuesday evening, leading to property inundation and isolation. Bridges in Bundaberg will close by 3pm Tuesday, with a local precinct serving as a refuge.
Northern Australia has experienced severe flooding, with parts of the Northern Territory facing their worst conditions in decades. Darwin's major water source, the Darwin River Dam, has stopped operating due to flooding, prompting calls for water conservation.
Across Queensland, at least 15 rivers are experiencing major flooding. While the rain has cleared in some areas, rivers remain elevated. Inland towns like Mundubbera and Gayndah are also under severe flood warnings.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese urged affected communities to heed flood warnings, emphasizing the danger of driving through floodwaters. Globally, extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and intense due to global heating, with Australia particularly vulnerable to flash flooding and heavy rainfall.
