Second Blast Rocks Bulgarian Munitions Site
12 Sep
Summary
- An explosion caused a fire at a weapons storage site near Tsareva Livada.
- The affected facility is reportedly run by EMCO, previously hit last month.
- Bulgarian prosecutors link EMCO's facilities to Russian operatives.

An overnight explosion sparked a fire at a weapons storage facility in central Bulgaria, near the village of Tsareva Livada. Local officials confirmed the blaze was spreading through warehouses on the site.
This incident is the second fire at a munitions facility linked to EMCO in recent weeks. The company, operated by Bulgarian arms dealer Emilian Gebrev, has previously been the subject of allegations by Bulgarian prosecutors.
Prosecutors have accused Russian operatives of past attacks on EMCO's facilities. In 2024, Bulgaria issued arrest warrants for six Russian citizens suspected of destroying EMCO depots storing munitions destined for Ukraine and Georgia between 2011 and 2020.
These explosions have been connected by prosecutors to an attempted poisoning of Gebrev in 2015 and similar depot explosions in the Czech Republic in 2014. Moscow has denied these allegations.
