Bug Causes Fatal Crash: Woman Freaks Out, Kills Couple
18 Aug
Summary
- A woman allegedly swerved after a bug entered her vehicle.
- The swerving vehicle collided with a motorcycle carrying two people.
- Both motorcycle occupants, identified as a couple, died at the scene.

A bug entering a vehicle led to a fatal crash in western Pennsylvania last week, according to police.
Bernadette A. Cobb, 55, is facing charges including homicide by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter for the Aug. 12 collision. Authorities allege Cobb "freaked out" when a bug flew into her car while she was driving with her windows down. She told investigators she swiped at the bug, inadvertently turning the steering wheel.
The swerving action caused Cobb's vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic on a two-lane road in Luthersburg, Clearfield County. There, it collided with a motorcycle carrying Anthony Sones, 34, and Miranda Wormuth, 30.
Both Sones and Wormuth, described as a couple and soulmates of 14 years, were pronounced dead at the scene. Cobb was arrested the day of the crash and has since posted $100,000 bail. Her attorney stated the crash was a "tragic accident" and that authorities arrested his client prematurely.
