The insurer stated he was not covered because he did not possess the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) certificate required in the UK for moped riders, a detail not requested when he hired the vehicle. His mother has initiated a GoFundMe campaign, seeking over £20,000 to cover the estimated £15,000 to £40,000 medical and repatriation expenses, with over £14,450 raised so far.
