A British solo traveler on a trip to Costa Rica has tragically died after being overcome by strong sea currents. Christian Woodroffe, 22, from Burnham-on-Crouch, was found deceased on a beach in Cahuita three days after his last communication with his family.
The inquest heard that Mr. Woodroffe's family suspected he encountered trouble in the sea, which was experiencing 8ft (2.4m) waves at the time of his disappearance. The area coroner officially determined his death to be an accident under sad circumstances.
Mr. Woodroffe had been enjoying a three-month trip in the Central American country and was considering extending his stay. Following his death, his body was repatriated to the UK, and a community fundraiser successfully gathered over £13,500 for his funeral expenses.
