British Skier's 300m Alps Fall Ends in Tragedy

A British skier, aged 24, has tragically died in the French Alps after a devastating fall of almost 300 metres. The incident occurred while the holidaymaker was skiing off-piste in Les Arcs 2000. While traversing a particularly steep section of the slope, the skier lost their balance and plummeted down the mountainside.

Emergency services, including ski patrollers and an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene above an avalanche dam. Despite their immediate efforts, the skier, who suffered a cardiac arrest, was pronounced dead. Another skier who attempted the same treacherous path became trapped and required rescue by a police helicopter.

Les Arcs has extended condolences to the victim's family. The incident highlights significant risks associated with off-piste skiing, particularly on slopes that narrow towards the bottom with hard snow. Foreign Office warnings advise British travellers about potential dangers and the importance of comprehensive travel insurance for adventurous activities.
