The situation in Juiz de Fora is particularly dire, as the city has experienced its rainiest February in history. The rainfall has more than doubled the monthly average, triggering severe flooding and landslides. In response, municipal school classes have been suspended. Emergency services have deployed specialized teams, including 136 officials, to conduct search operations for the missing and address the critical conditions.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has pledged comprehensive humanitarian assistance, focusing on restoring essential services, supporting displaced individuals, and aiding in reconstruction efforts. Weather alerts for heavy rain have been issued for parts of 14 states, including Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro, underscoring the widespread impact of the extreme weather season.
