A frightening incident occurred on Tuesday when a large boulder, described as the size of a small car, fell onto a westbound SUV on Highway 2, approximately three miles outside Leavenworth. The impact from the right side of the road was severe, completely totaling the vehicle.
Four individuals were inside the SUV at the time of the rockslide, including a 12-year-old child. While the vehicle suffered extensive damage, miraculously, all occupants escaped with relatively minor injuries. The child required stitches for cuts but is expected to recover fully.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, clearing the roadway and temporarily shutting down the highway. The Washington State Department of Transportation has been contacted for further information regarding the condition of the affected stretch of highway.
