In a tragic incident early on Sunday, September 18, 2026, a speeding BMW crashed through a barrier on Mumbai's Coastal Road and fell from a bridge into an under-construction parking area. The car, travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali around 5:20 AM, reportedly failed to negotiate a turn near Lotus Jetty at high speed.
CCTV footage captured the vehicle's devastating plunge. The BMW sustained extensive damage upon impact at the construction site below. Emergency services rushed all four occupants, identified as students, to the nearby Nair Hospital.
Tragically, three of the occupants were pronounced dead at the hospital. They were identified as 21-year-old Shanaya Gajjal, 20-year-old Aditya Jakasania, and 17-year-old Dhirya Seth. The fourth occupant, an unidentified male around 20 years old, is in critical condition in the trauma ward with severe injuries.
Shanaya Gajjal and Aditya Jakasania were management students from Juhu, while Dhirya Seth studied in Kurla. Police confirmed all four hailed from Ahmedabad, and the BMW was registered to Gajjal's family. The Mumbai Coastal Road is a 10.58-km stretch connecting Marine Drive and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
