A somber mood has enveloped Bihar's Saran district following a devastating incident at Baijalpur Ghat. What began as a joyous Chauthari ritual, a customary post-wedding observance, quickly devolved into tragedy four days after a family's celebration. During a sacred dip in the Gandak river, strong currents swept away four members of the same family.
Tragically, two women, identified as Babita Devi (42) and Gudiya Devi (40), were pulled from the water but later declared deceased at Sadar Hospital. A desperate search is underway for two missing teenagers, a 16-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy, who are feared to have drowned. Authorities and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams are actively conducting search operations in the Gandak river.
This unfortunate event has cast a pall over the family, turning wedding preparations into mourning. The incident underscores the dangers posed by river currents, especially during auspicious rituals that draw families to the water's edge.
