A significant wildfire, dubbed the Timber Fire, is currently burning on California's Central Coast, posing a substantial threat to structures in the Big Sur area. As of Wednesday morning, the fire had consumed 3,150 acres and achieved only 5% containment. Officials reported that the fire's activity was concentrated in higher elevations overnight, with flames creeping downhill.
Evacuation orders have been issued for multiple zones, including MRY-F023 through MRY-F028-A, while evacuation warnings are in place for zones MRY-F022, MRY-F024, MRY-F028-B, and MRY-F029. Consequently, California Highway Patrol has closed Highway 1 in both directions between Fernwood Resort and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Vista Point. Several state parks in the region, including Point Sur, Andrew Molera, Pfeiffer Big Sur, and Julia Pfeiffer Burns, are also closed.
Over 900 personnel, supported by numerous engines, water tenders, helicopters, dozers, and hand crews, are actively working to control the blaze. The fire, which ignited Saturday evening in the Los Padres National Forest, is of an unknown cause, with investigations ongoing.
