A tragic incident occurred on the Haiderganj flyover in Lucknow when a 35-year-old medical representative, Mohammad Shoaib, succumbed to a fatal throat injury caused by a kite string. While crossing the flyover on his motorcycle, a glass-coated kite string allegedly wrapped around his neck, causing a severe cut. Bystanders alerted authorities, and Shoaib was rushed to a hospital, but he later died from his injuries.
This fatality is the second of its kind in Lucknow within two months, reigniting concerns over the continued use of banned kite strings. Residents expressed anger over lax enforcement of the ban, particularly during kite-flying seasons, and highlighted the particular danger posed to commuters on flyovers and major roads. The incident has left Shoaib's family, including his wife and two young daughters, devastated and facing financial hardship.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, with further action to be taken based on the family's complaint. Medical officials confirmed the victim suffered a critical neck injury and significant blood loss. The incident underscores a persistent public safety issue, with similar accidents reported previously, leading to demands for stricter measures against the sale and use of hazardous kite strings.
