Bangladesh Floods: 50 Dead, Thousands Displaced

Monsoon rains have unleashed deadly floods and landslides across Bangladesh in the past week, claiming at least 50 lives. The southeastern districts, particularly Chattogram, have been the hardest hit, with 29 deaths attributed to landslides. Approximately 35,000 people have been displaced and are seeking shelter in government-run facilities. Army and border guard personnel are engaged in critical relief efforts, ferrying essential supplies via boat to isolated communities. The situation remains dire for many, with homes and kitchens submerged, exacerbating shortages of food and safe drinking water. Heavy rains also caused landslides in Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar, resulting in 15 fatalities among the vulnerable population living in unstable hillside shelters. While conditions in the southeast are expected to improve, the monsoon remains active in northern regions, posing risks of further inundation. In response to the tragedy, President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended their condolences to the bereaved families and offered prayers for the recovery of the injured and the safety of all affected.
