3 Apr
Summary
- Boat carrying 25 women overturned in Bagmati river.
- 24 women rescued; one passenger remains missing.
- Lack of bridge forces river travel for farmland access.

A distressing incident occurred on the Bagmati river near Mahadeva village, Sheohar district, when a boat carrying 25 women passengers capsized on Friday. Swift rescue efforts by local residents and authorities managed to save 24 women from the turbulent waters. However, one passenger, identified as 30-year-old Gulshan Khatoon, is still missing. The women were on their way to their agricultural fields to harvest wheat when the boat overturned midstream.
This area lacks a bridge over the Bagmati river, compelling residents of several villages, including Motanaje and Mahadeva, to use boats for daily travel to their farmlands located across the river. The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Avinash Kunal stated that rescue teams, including the NDRF, were dispatched. Despite extensive search operations, Gulshan Khatoon has not yet been located due to strong currents. The search is expected to continue on Saturday.
