Miracle Baby Chokes, Left Blind and Unable to Walk
20 Mar
Summary
- Baby Emanuelly suffered severe brain damage after choking on fruit.
- She is now blind, unable to walk or talk, and fed via tube.
- Family is stranded in the UK without insurance for needed treatment.

A 'miracle' baby girl, Emanuelly Rodrigues, is fighting for life in London after choking on a strawberry on February 3, 2026. The one-year-old suffered cardiac arrest and significant brain damage due to oxygen deprivation lasting about 30 minutes. She was placed in an induced coma for over a week and now faces blindness, inability to walk or talk, and requires feeding through a tube.
Emanuelly's parents, Wanessa and Luiz, are from Brazil and were visiting the UK with their daughters on tourist visas. They are now stranded, unable to afford the specialist neuro-rehabilitation treatment Emanuelly urgently needs, as she is not fit to fly. A GoFundMe has been set up to raise funds for her care, as the treatment is not readily available in Brazil.
Doctors at Watford General Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital have provided care, but the family is in limbo awaiting access to rehabilitation. The hospital has not yet provided a medical letter to support a visa extension, leaving the family in a distressing situation as they seek medical help for their daughter.
