High Winds Force BA Flight Back to London
25 Oct
Summary
- A British Airways flight returned to London with all passengers aboard.
- High winds prevented passengers from disembarking in Guernsey.
- Ferry services also faced significant delays due to adverse weather.
High winds battered the Channel Islands over the weekend, causing significant travel chaos. A British Airways flight that had briefly landed in Guernsey was compelled to return to London Heathrow Airport with all 26 passengers still onboard.
Guernsey Ports reported that the extreme wind conditions exceeded safe limits for disembarking passengers. Consequently, the aircraft departed from Guernsey with its full complement of travellers. All other flights scheduled for Saturday afternoon were also cancelled.
Ferries also faced substantial disruption. The Islander, operated by Brittany Ferries, was delayed en route from St. Malo due to adverse weather conditions. Strong gusts exceeding 40 knots in St. Peter Port prevented the vessel from completing its initial approach safely.
The ferry remained at sea until conditions improved, eventually docking around 01:00 BST. Brittany Ferries emphasized that passenger and crew safety remain their top priority and expressed gratitude for the patience shown by those onboard.
