1 Sep
Summary
- Two I-35 flyovers in Austin will close nightly for bridge work.
- Closures occur nightly from Sunday, August 30 to Thursday, September 3.
- The I-35 Capital Express South project aims to improve mobility and reduce congestion.

Central Texas travelers face significant disruptions as two Interstate 35 flyovers in Austin will be closed nightly. From Sunday, August 30, through Thursday, September 3, the eastbound and westbound State Highway 71/Ben White Boulevard to southbound I-35 flyovers will shut down between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. This nightly closure is necessary for bridge column work associated with the I-35 Capital Express South project.
The I-35 Capital Express South Project, which began in 2022, is designed to expand an 8-mile stretch of I-35. The expansion includes adding non-tolled high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes and elevated managed lanes, aiming to enhance mobility, improve safety, and reduce traffic congestion. The project's completion is anticipated by late 2028, though this timeline is subject to weather conditions. Drivers are advised to expect delays and exercise caution within the work zones.
